Varieties in Pomegranates: An average fruit size is roughly 300 gms. Ganesh and Bhagwa are the two most popular varieties of pomegranate grown in India. Grown primarily in Maharashtra, the Ganesh variety is light coloured with a yellowish pink outer colour and softer seeds. However, the Bhagwa variety is more in demand in both domestic and international markets. This is because it grows with a thick, smooth red skin, and looks attractive. Besides, its thick skin protects the fruit from infections, giving it a longer shelf life.
